The number of passenger trips on highways during the forthcoming Spring Festival season is expectedto hit 1.72 billion, up 3 percent from last year.

In accordance with the traditional Chinese calendar, the SpringFestival --one of the most important occasion for family reunion for Chinese people -- will fall on January 22 next year.

But the Spring Festival transport season will start from January 7 and ends on February 15, and the transport task during this period is the most arduous, said an official from the Ministry of Communications.
