◆ Air Control Introduced at Pearl River Delta

A stricter air control is being introduced at the Pearl River Delta in south China from September 29 through October 9 in a bid to ensure air safety at five airports in Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Macao during the forthcoming National Day holidays. Experts from the air traffic control center, headquartered in Zhuhai of Guangdong Province, said that they have worked out rigid air control measures and are well prepared for the coming peak travel season, that will be from October 1, China's National Day, through to October 7. According to sources, an average of 100 flights will be added a day from September 28 to October 9 at the five airports. To ensure air safety, air control workers have been organized to receive training in safety awareness and more people have been assigned to be on duty at the air control center during the holidays. Along with the introduction of a leader responsibility system on duty, countermeasures have been prepared in case of an emergency. Detailed measures guaranteeing the safe operation of equipment have also been published to ensure that air control workers will be provided with accurate flight information at the five airports. Zhuhai Air Control Center, which began operation last September, has successfully handled 113,810 flights at the five airports.
