◆ Big names on board for Zhuhai air show

The Fourth Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition will be held November 4-10 this year at Zhuhai, a beautiful beach city in South China, sources with Zhuhai Airshow Co Ltd said on Tuesday.

Although international aviation manufacturing industries were hit hard by the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States last year, organizers said that thanks to two years of intensive promotion, the forthcoming Airshow China 2002 will feature more exhibitors and state-of-the-art exhibits than ever.

From June 2001 to July this year, the organizers launched a series of promotion campaigns at major air shows in Paris, Moscow, Singapore, Berlin, Farnborough, and North America.

They have secured considerable space orders from aviation businesses worldwide, including such well-known names as Boeing, United Technologies, Airbus, EDAS, CFM, SBAC, Rolls Royce, Sukhoi, Rosoboronexport and Aviaexpert.

Russian aviation industries are planning to continue their strong presence at the show, with Aviaexpert having reserved an exhibition space of 500 square metres.

Regional-jet and business-jet developers from the United States, Canada and Brazil are expected to bring their latest models.

Led by the China Aviation Industry Corporation I and II, domestic exhibitors will display aviation and aerospace products at the show, two-thirds of which are newly developed.

The China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation will exhibit missile systems and satellite related technologies.

Organizers refused to confirm reports that China's new generation fighter jet will be on display at the air show, saying nothing had been identified so far.
