 ◆ Buddhist mountain being protected by legal document


A regulation for protecting the attractions on Jiuhua Mountain in east China's Anhui Province, one of four Buddhism-related mountains in China, was passed by a local legislative body on Oct.9.

The regulation, approved by the Standing Committee of Anhui Provincial People's Congress passed the regulations, will take effect on Jan. 1, 2003.

The regulation makes clear the area of the mountain and stipulates that certain development and maintenance projects cannot damage traditional cultural and scenic attractions in a whole.
