The State Administration for Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine issued a circular to warn its offices across China to take precautions against infection of Ebola virus.
According to a report from the World Health Organization, the hemorrhagic fever has broken out in the Republic of Gabon. By December 19, 27 people in the country were suspected of carrying symptoms resembling the Ebola-type disease. Fifteen of them have since died.
There is no vaccine against Ebola, which was first recognized in 1976. Victims often bleed to death internally along with symptoms ranging from fever to exhaustion. The death rate of the disease can be as high as 50 to 90 percent.
In the circular, the administration asked Chinese customs to report regularly on their inspection of passengers from epidemic-prone countries who are suspected of having the symptoms. Quarantine measures should be taken if necessary.
It also banned the customs import or the passing-through of quadrumana species from Gabon to prevent the epidemic from entering China.(People's Daily)
