China has announced it is taking measures against the possible arrival of dengue and hemorrhagic dengue from Ecuador in South America.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), as of Aug. 2,a total of 344 cases of dengue and 11 cases of hemorrhagic dengue had been reported in Ecuador.
A recent announcement from the State Administration of Quality Supervision and Quarantine requested passengers arriving in China from Ecuador tell immigration authorities if they have symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle pain, and rashes.
Security checks on all arrivals from Ecuador will intensify and will include vehicles and containers.
Passengers traveling to Ecuador will be informed of the risk of dengue and advised to take precautions, according to the announcement.
Dengue is an acute infectious disease caused by the dengue virus and spread by the genus aedes, also called the yellow-fever mosquito. The disease can be divided into common dengue and hemorrhagic dengue, with the latter sometimes leading to death.
