 ◆ China's first int'l toy expo scheduled

China's first international toy exposition is scheduled for October 8-11 in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province.

The expo will be hosted by China Toy Association in cooperation with its counterparts in Hong Kong and Taiwan and a Nuremberg-based toy exhibition company that hosts the world's biggest toy show Nuremberg international toy fair.

China now produces about 70 percent of the toys on the world market, with its toy export worth 7.58 billion US dollars in 2001.

Last year, China imported 7.58 billion US dollars worth of toys, and imported 140 million US dollars.

Shi Xiaoguang, director of the China Toy Association, said the expo will provide a chance for Chinese toy-makers to gather updated information on toys and improve their market competitiveness.

Toy producers and dealers form Germany, Britain, Russia, Spain, Mexico, the Republic of Korea and other countries and regions are expected to attend the expo.
