Special regulations were issued recently in Guanling county in southwest China's Guizhou province, to protect its abundant heritage sites and ancient fossils.
Some of Guanling county's ancient fossils date back 230 million years ago making them of great importance to research and highly valued.
Since 1997, some of these fossils have been smuggled out of the province and in some cases, out of the country.
The new regulation will be enacted on October 1 this year. Its aims are to ensure the protection of the area's heritage, standardize the way cultural relics are managed, and crack down on the smuggling of relics.
