Historical works on the Chinese economy were the biggest winners in the second Guo Moruo Chinese History Awards given here recently.
China's top recognition for historical research, the awards were granted to 21 outstanding works on the occasion of the 110th birthday of Guo Moruo, one of China's most celebrated contemporary poets, writers and historians.
Among the award winners, up to eight books focused on the Chinese economy, including the first-place winner, "The Modern Economic History of China" by Wang Jingyu.
This is a significant increase over the first Guo Moruo awards in 2000, when only two out of the 25 winners were historical works on the economy.
Financed by the Guo Moruo Foundation, the award was established to recognize works of history, archeology, paleography and paleoanthropology.
All 20 judges of this year's awards are renowned scholars from China's top academic institutions and universities.
