◆ Concert for Sino-Japanese Friendship Held

A concert of well-known Chinese composer Lu Yuan's masterpieces was held in Beijing on May 24 to mark the 30th anniversary of normalization of Sino-Japanese relations.

The concert was co-sponsored by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the China-Japan Friendship Association.

More than 20 Chinese and Japanese artists joined in songs and dances, which were all translated or produced by Lu with the theme of developing friendship between the two peoples.

Some works are widely known by both Chinese and Japanese people, including The Spring in Northern Japan, The Song of Sino-Japanese Friendship, The Fujisan and The Great Wall.

An excerpt of an opera, which was performed for the Japanese emperor and empress when they visited China on the 20th anniversary of normalization of Sino-Japanese ties, was also staged at the concert.

Lu, born in 1929 in Northeast China's Liaoning Province, has produced thousands of music pieces.

Since 1961, he has translated more than 30 Japanese songs. So far, he has initiated and hosted two concerts for artists of the two countries, and five concerts of his works have been held on the Great Wall.
