An imposing mountain pitted with more than 150 huge dales could become a new scenic attraction in Northwest China's Shaanxi province.
The depressions are known to locals in Liuba county as dolines, unique geological formations found in karst regions, formed by repeated cave-ins on the top of underground caves. They are common in China, Mexico and Papua New Guinea.
The dolines in Liuba county, a typical marvelous spectacle, stretch over 30 kilometers on the top of Zibai Mountain, one of the three famous mountain ranges in Shaanxi province.
Each doline has a diameter of 500 to 1,000 meters and is covered with grass and flowers.
According to local historical records in Liuba county, the area used to have 82 raised highland areas, similar to the magnificent views of dolines. Chinese geologists will make further studies on the natural phenomenon and the local tourist department will make the site a new, enchanting destination.
