Over 400 experts from home and abroad put their heads together to discuss Antarctic exploration in the conference of the 27th Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) and the 14th Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programs (COMNAP) opened in Shanghai on July 14.
President of SCAR Robert Rutford said, hundreds and thousands of scientists and explorers risked their lives in the Antarctic in
order to discover the secret there and make people's living environment better and harmonious.
Instead of being isolated from other continents, the icy land can influence global environment, climate and other important issues. The study of the Antarctic has become a common concern
for many nations according to experts.
The 21st century marks new progress for human-beings in science
discovery and utilization, among which Antarctic is an important area. China will strive to make more contribution in Antarctic study and exploration, said Wang Shuguang, director of the State Oceanic Administration.
The 14-day conference will include 37 sub-meetings and delegates meetings.
