China's southwestern municipality of Chongqing is to be the first Asian venue for the infoDev Symposium, an international forum on information, knowledge, trade and development.
During the formal meeting, to be held on December 9 and 10, administrative officials and experts from domestic and international information businesses will discuss and exchange ideas on seven topics, including China and the World Trade Organization, information technology and poverty alleviation, and e-commerce.
On December 11, the Chongqing municipal government will arrange small workshops.
To ensure the smooth progress of the event, the municipal government had planned meticulously to ensure that delegates were provided with quality transport, accommodation and security, said Liu Chengyi, secretary general of Chongqing Municipal Government.
Since its establishment in 1995, the infoDev Symposium has taken place alternatively in a developing country and at World Bank headquarters in Washington.
