More than 980,000 people from home and abroad visited the Jinggang Mountains, a scenic spot under state protection in east China's Jiangxi Province, last year, bringing a tourism income of 500 million yuan (60.24 million U.S. dollars), sources said.
Dubbed as the cradle of the Chinese revolution, the Jinggang Mountains have many scenes featuring the history of Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army (1928-1937), led by the Communist Party of China. They include a mint of the Red Army, Jinggang Mountains Revolution Museum, a Red Army Village, which occupies an area of 10,000 square meters, and The Jinggang Mountains Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery.
Jinggang Mountains covers an area of 660.87 square kilometers and many of the peaks have an elevation of 1,000 to 1,500 meters. The mountains also boasts natural scenery including some 100 waterfalls, mystic "sea of clouds" and beautiful highland and gardens.
More than 7,000 hectares of virgin forest are scattered on the Jinggang Mountains, which boasts a forest cover rate of 86 percent. The mountains are the home to more than 3,800 kinds of plants and 1,108 species of animals.(xinhua)
