South China's metropolis of Guangzhou will invest 15.2 billion yuan (US$1.8 billion) in No.3 subway, the local municipal government said on Monday, adding the plan has been approved by expert groups from the cabinet's planning agency.
The budget submitted to the central government said every mile of the subway will cost 663 million yuan (US$79.9 million).
According to a report submitted to the State Development and Planning Commission for approval, the No.3 subway is expected to be completed by 2007, the local government official said.
The new subway's highest speed will reach 120 kilometres per hour, higher than No.2 subway's 80 kilometres per hour. It will also apply new technologies on the train running on the subway.(China Daily)(12/17/2001)
