Hainan Airlines has acquired three Boeing 737-800 airplanes as part of an international leasing package to improve passenger transport capacity, the airline said on Sunday.
The leasing deal was arranged by China Construction Bank and Chase Manhattan Bank and guaranteed by the Export-Import Bank of the United States. It marked the largest international financing contract of its kind for a Chinese company after the September 11 US terrorist attacks rocked the world financial market, the airline said in a news release.
"The completion of leasing procedures indicated the confidence of China Construction Bank and overseas financial institutions in our company and the airline industry in China," a Hainan Airlines spokesperson said. "And it paves the way for more domestic airline companies to acquire airplanes through international financing leasings."
The three Boeing 737-800 carriers are scheduled to arrive on Friday and Sunday at the company's headquarters in Haikou in South China's Hainan Province.
According to Boeing, Hainan Airlines was the first in the Asia-Pacific region to use the Boeing 737-800, which has earned a good reputation among airlines for its high speed, fuel-efficiency, low noise and low air pollution.(China Daily)
