An international dance parade with more than 100 children performers from Bulgaria, West Africa and Hong Kong performed at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre on July 19 to mark the opening of International Arts Carnival.
The festival, an annual spectacular summer festival for children, youth and their families, will be held here until August 25.
It includes other exciting shows ranging from music, dance, drama, puppetry, mime, magic, clowning, Cantonese opera, to film.
In addition, the carnival offers participatory activities such as a graphic design competition, workshops, exhibitions, guided tours of cultural venues and outdoor fun days.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Secretary for Home Affairs Patrick Ho and Director of Leisure and Cultural Services Paul Leung.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ho said, "Each year, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department organizes for children, youngsters and families this summer festival, which is both entertaining and educational."
He said, "Apart from enhancing the quality of life of the community, these programs and activities also aim to inspire creativity and will enable our young people to have a better understanding of themselves."
