◆ Macao Sees Huge Flow of Travelers on New Year's Day

Streams of travelers swarmed at the Barrier Gate Customs, the only land gate between Macao and China's mainland, on New Year's Day.

Preliminary statistics show that the port handled a total of 135,000 passengers Tuesday by adding a few special passages, where police were helping them fill in the entry and exit cards and reminding them of the safety of luggage.

The figure is up about 30 percent from the passenger flow in common days.

Macao residents traveled to the mainland areas to visit their relatives, go shopping or sightseeing, while tourist services from the mainland brought the special administrative region large numbers of holiday-makers.

Ferry frequencies also increased at the Hong Kong-Macao Ferry Terminal for the convenience of tourists from Hong Kong, the largest source for Macao.

During the holiday, Macao's streets are decorated with red lanterns and colorful lamps. Commodities are on sale in many shops.Hotels have put forward different kinds of service for guests.(People's Daily)
