◆ Media, musical events to mark anniversary of Sino-Japanese ties

A picture exhibition on media cooperation between China and Japan and a large-scale musical evening will be held in Tokyo on October 9 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the normalization of Sino-Japanese ties, China's State Council Information Office announced recently.

Over twenty influential media from China and Japan will take part in the show, exhibiting their works on communication and cooperation between the two countries at both governmental and civilian levels in the past thirty years.

"The picture show will help increase dialogue and cooperation between the media circles of the two countries," Gu Yaoming, director general of the international communication bureau of the State Council Information Office, said.

Meanwhile, a large scale evening of music will attract top singers, dancers, acrobats, drama artists and some symphony orchestras, choruses, and corps de ballet from China and Japan to perform.

Gu said these activities provide an opportunity to review the development of Sino-Japanese ties over the past thirty years, which is of great importance to the deepening of the friendship between the two peoples.

Kuni Miyake, minister of the press and culture center of the Japanese Embassy to China, said the year 2002 is a year of anniversary celebrations for the two countries, which offer a good chance to not only look back, but also look ahead to the next thirty years.

Miyake hopes such activities will further strengthen the bilateral communication and cooperation in various areas.

The musical evening will be recorded and broadcast on China Central Television, Shanghai Eastern Television and Japan's NHK.
