◆ Nepalese King Arrives in Beijing for State Visit

Nepalese King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev arrived in Beijing Tuesday for a seven-day state visit to China at the invitation of President Jiang Zemin. During his stay in China, the king is expected to confer with President Jiang and senior Chinese officials on bilateral ties and cooperation on trade and economic development between the two countries. They will also discuss regional and international issues of mutual concern. The Nepalese king will also travel to the Chinese cities of Dalian, Yichang and Shanghai. From Yichang, he will proceed to visit the on-going gigantic Three Gorges Project in Hubei Province, central China. This is the first state visit to China by King Gyanendra since he ascended the Nepalese throne in June last year.
