◆ Non-Stop Service from Beijing to Chicago

United Airlines announced Monday that beginning April 2, 2001 it will become the first airlines to offer non-stop services between Beijing and Chicago. According to Sidney Kwok, general manager of United Airlines in China, the new daily non-stop service, flight UA850, will depart from Beijing at 16:35 p.m. and arrive in Chicago at 16:40 p.m. on the same day, only 13 hours and five minutes travel time. On April 2, United Airlines will also commence a convenient service from Beijing to San Francisco via Tokyo, United Airlines' largest Asian hub. With the addition of these two new routes to the U.S., and new daily service from Shanghai to San Francisco, United Airlines is now able to provide 21 weekly flights from China to the U.S., more than any other North American carrier. Four American airlines, including United Airlines, Northwest Airlines, Federal Express and UPS, were approved to totally add 10 Sino-U.S. flights every week beginning in April, 2001, respectively, two for United Airlines, one for Northwest Airlines, one for Federal Express, and six for UPS.
