Public order remained good in China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) thanks to police efforts.
The efforts are focused on preventing and fighting against crimes to prepare for liberalization of the gambling market, a government report shows Monday.
The report from the General Secretariat for Security said that a total of 2,203 crime cases were recorded in the first quarter of this year, a very slight rise of 11 over a year earlier.
Of them, cases involving infringement upon personal safety and interference against social life and local safety all decreased, versus a 7.8 percent rise in the number of cases caused by property encroachment.
Murder, blackmailing and kidnapping cases dropped by 75 percent, 46.4 percent and 13.6 percent, respectively.
The authorities said that security forces took preventive and containing measures to bring down criminal cases committed by young people by as much as 31.7 percent in the three months.
In the meantime, efforts were exerted to crack down on drug abuse, illegal entries and overstay.
Statistics show that the number of criminal cases diminished 0.2 percent year on year to 8,905 in Macao last year.
