 ◆ Scenic Hangzhou to host West Lake Expo

The West Lake Expo 2002 is scheduled to be held in the scenic city of Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province, from Oct. 20 to Nov. 10 this year.

This was announced by an organizing committee at a news briefing here Wednesday.

The exposition, which seeks to promote local economic and cultural development, will consist of dozens of exhibitions, conferences and other activities, including a fashion show, a flower fair, West Lake art expo, an international tea trade fair, an international symposium on cable TV technologies and an international conference on environmental remote-sensing technology.

The first West Lake Expo was held in 1929, attracting exhibits and visitors from all over the world.

The previous two West Lake expositions, held in 2000 and 2001, drew 11.8 million visitors, generated a total trade volume of 14.1billion yuan (1.69 billion US dollars) and contracted investment valued at 25.6 billion yuan (3.08 billion dollars) and 1 billion dollars respectively.
