Thirty-nine scholars from China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia and Singapore gathered Thursday in Qufu City, Shandong Province, in east China, to attend the 2002 Forum on East Asian Culture.
Qufu is the hometown of Confucius, the founder of the Confucianism and one of the greatest ancient educators and philosophers in Chinese history.
Participants, including diplomatic envoys from a dozen foreign countries, shared their views on the forum's main topic -- Confucianism and credibility.
They agreed that Confucianism is an important part of China's traditional culture, which has also had significant impact on East Asia and even on the entire world.
