◆ Tourism Mart to Get Firm Hand

China has vowed to rein in its tourism market management through better regulation and a crack down on misbehaviour by some members of the industry. China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) has decided to put the outbound tourism market in order and outlaw unlicensed travel services. China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) has decided to put the outbound tourism market in order and outlaw unlicensed travel services. Also, luring tourists with false advertisements, which in the past has created chaos at scenic spots near big cities, will be grounds for punishment. These remarks were made by Sun Gang, deputy director of the administration, at a press conference yesterday. "While addressing problems in the tourism market, we have prepared well for the 'golden travel period' with a nationwide tourism statistics and forecast system that will be available during the holiday," Sun said. The system gathers the latest information on the number of tourists and accommodations in 25 major tourist cities and 10 major scenic spots, which will be released via CCTV and other media from April 24 to May 8, according to Sun. "What we focus on most during the holiday is tourism safety and order. Next is the economic benefits," Sun added. Statistics indicate that the total number of domestic tourists last year exceeded 700 million.
