Not long ago, a group of foreign tourists in Shanghai, after visiting Yuyuan Garden and other famous attractions, made three special requests of their tour guides: They wanted spending a day living with a Shanghai family, they wanted to learn to cook a typical Shanghai dish and they wanted to a stroll down a street with Shanghai youth. These requests reflect the kind of ?experience travel? that has become more attractive to tourists who say they have been to most of the famous attractions and that what they want is a new tourist model that will let them experience and enjoy real local life. The so-called ?experience travel? may seem like an easy thing to arrange, but in fact most travel agencies say they do not offer such services. And although it might seem that ?experience travel? would be popular, some authorities also about making any profit in the arrangement. Professor Zhuang Zhimin, the dean of the Travel Department at East China Normal University, said traditional tours tend to limit participation while ?experience travel? features new, strange and special tastes. More and more people find it interesting to experience with their hearts, not just their eyes. Zhuang said he thought ?experience travel? could become economically viable and could be divided into specialty areas such as holidays, rest and relaxation or exploration. With changes in ideas and customs, people are tired of traditional travel. Let?£¤s hear it for ?experience travel!?
