 ◆ Tung congratulates Shanghai on winning expo bid

Hong Kong Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa congratulated Shanghai Wednesday (Dec.4) on its successful bid to host the 2010 World Expo.

"This is another opportunity for the 1.2 billion Chinese people in the mainland to celebrate after Beijing got the right to host the 2008 Olympic Games," Tung said in a statement.

"There is rapid development in China and the quality of life for citizens is continuously improving. The Expo is the best window to demonstrate the achievements of China." he added.

Tung said he wished to extend on behalf of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region warm congratulations to the citizens of Shanghai and believed the Expo will turn out to be the best ever to be held.
