China has recently established two organizations to accelerate the development of performing arts for handicapped people, also known as "special art".
The two new bodies are the China Special Art Association, which is a non-government organization, and the China Center for the Guidance of Special Art of the Handicapped, which is subordinate to the China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF).
The establishment of the bodies was announced by the CDPF at a press conference which was held at the Great Hall of the People, on August 27 Beijing.
Deng Pufang, chairman of the CDPF, attended the press conference and viewed, together with other participants, a documentary about the 15-year old China Disabled Persons' Performing Arts Troupe.
The troupe has toured over 30 foreign countries and regions. Its well-known work "My Dream" has been highly acclaimed by local audiences and artists.
According to Liu Xiaocheng, vice-chairman of the CDPF, the troupe is now rehearsing "My Dream II" and plans to make performance tours of 15 foreign countries as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan next year.
The troupe also plans to hold a charity performance for the war-torn and hungry population of Africa, Liu said.
