The eastern province of Zhejiang is to invest 18 billion yuan (US$2.17 billion) this year in transportation infrastructure, the provincial communications department said recently.
A total of 547 kilometers of expressways will be built cross the province this year, according to an investment plan the department disclosed at the annual session of the provincial legislature.
The total length of expressways in the province is expected to reach 1,317 kilometers by the end of this year, when travel from the provincial capital to every prefecture-level city will need only four hours' drive.
Zhejiang will also speed up the renovation of major highways throughout the province and three major water ways.
